Donald Strand

Deerfield/ Waterloo- Donald Strand, age 82, passed away on June 15, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1933 in Madison, the son of William Delaine and Josephine Olena (Midthum) Strand.
Don graduated in 1951 from Deerfield high school and then served in the Army from October 1952 to March 1955. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 50 years. During that time he ran Deerfield Memorial Lanes and the Triangle Inn. Don was a well-known pitcher for the Deerfield home talent baseball team for 23 years and proud to say he tried out for the majors at Wrigley Field in 1956 and 57. He was an avid bowler, golfer and huge Packer and Badger fan. The last 35 years Don loved spending his winters in Arizona, but his true passion was being with family and friends. Trips up north, boating on Lake Koshkonong and cruising in his 87 diesel.
Don is survived by his wife Ramona of Waterloo, five children, Joni (Donn) Kreuger of Deerfield, Jeff of Mesa, AZ , Jamie (Tracy) and Joey of Cambridge and Jay (Tracy) of Lake Mills; five grandchildren, Angela (Pablo) Lira of Fitchburg, James Kessler, Jr. of Deerfield, Sophie, Stevey and Sammy of Cambridge. Two brothers James (Betty) of Deerfield, William (Donna) of Park Falls, aunt Caroline Ustad of Stoughton and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerome, grandson Jay Jr., daughter-in-law Mary, late wife Louise (Hefner) and step-daughter JoAnn Hoene.
A memorial service will be held at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 South Main Street Deerfield, WI at 11:00 AM Saturday June 20, 2015. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Friends and family are invited to the luncheon immediately following the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Specialty Clinic in Ft. Atkinson and Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek for the wonderful care given to Dad.
