SUN PRAIRIE - Donald E. Starker, age 83 passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg.
Don was born and raised in Sun Prairie on October 21, 1931 to the late Leonard and Mary Ann (Henke) Starker. He was a 1949 graduate of Sun Prairie High School.
Don was united in marriage to Esther Schultz in 1956. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Air Force for eight years. He was employed with Bowman Dairy for twenty seven years, Royal Publishing for thirteen years and DeGolier Printing for ten years. He was a member of the Sun Prairie VFW, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, the Sun Prairie American Legion, and Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. He was very active with the post in parades and the military honors firing squad.
Don enjoyed casinos, cards, bowling, camping, horse shoes, and softball. He loved sports and was an avid Packer, Brewer, and Badger fan.
Don will be deeply missed by his children: Sherry (Gary) Wolf of Waterloo, Terri (Don) Chatfield of Madison, Todd Starker (Pat Stephans) of Merrimac, David (Lori) Starker of Pardeeville, and Brian (Stephanie) Starker of North Freedom; grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher, Jeremy, Cory and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Annie; siblings, Eugene (Delores) Starker of San Antonio, TX, Marie Roth, Penny (Merlin Buckley) Emerson, Robert Starker, and Jim (Cheryl) Starker all of Sun Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Esther and granddaughter, Sara Wolf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 221 Columbus St., Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. A visitation will be held at Cress Funeral Home, Sun Prairie on Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 pm and also on Wednesday at church one hour prior to the Mass. Military honors will follow the Mass as well as a reception at the Sun Prairie VFW Post 9362. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Reedsburg at 3 p.m.
