Waunakee - Donald Eugene Schlaver, born on October 13, 1926 in Sparta, Wisconsin, to the late Doris (Prescott) Schlaver and the late Theodore Schlaver, passed away at age 91 on May 21, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Donald was married to Dolores Herman on August 18, 1948 in Bangor, Wis.

From 1945 to 1946, Donald served in the Army in World War II. Following his discharge from the Army he would go on to attend and graduated from UW-Plattville with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture. After graduation he went on to teach other veterans how to farm in Hixton, Wis. After a few years of teaching he would go on to work as an assistant to the state veterinarian for the State of Wisconsin where he worked until he retired in 1991. After retirement he would work another 15 years driving school bus for Middleton Schools.

Donald loved playing bridge and euchre with the neighbors, Friday night fish fry, and metal detecting with Dolores. He was an Elder member at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where he served in many positions. He was a member of VFW and American Legion.

Donald is survived by his wife Dolores Schlaver; son, Steven Schlaver; daughters, Susan (Jim) Schlaver Wentland and Sandra Laux; brothers, Ken (Vonnie) Schlaver and Jerry (Virginia) Schlaver; sisters, Ruth Johnson, Evelyn Herrman, Anita Steinke, and Eileen (Chuck) Arndt; and grandson, Tyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Charlotte Koopman; and godchild Scott Herman.

Donations in Donald's name may be made out to American Cancer Society or ALS.

Friends and family can pay their respects at the visitation on Thursday, May 24 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 110 N. Whitney Way, Madison. Following that, there will be a funeral service, officiated by Rev. Jason Zobel, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Donald will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens.
