ASHTON/ WAUNAKEE-Donald W. "Don" Kalscheur, age 90, passed away peacefully at St Mary's Hospital in Madison on Saturday, May 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Madison on February 5, 1927, to Joseph and Johanna (Ripp) Kalscheur. Donald married Joan Pickarts on Nov. 6, 1965, and they spent 51 cherished years together. Don was first and foremost a man of great faith. He attended church regularly at St. Peter's in Ashton his entire life. He worked for Dane County at the City County Building from 1950 to 1981. He was also a successful business owner in Waunakee, the owner of Don's Mobile Manor on Hwy 12 since 1958 to the present. Donald spent many cherished years with Joan and had many, many warm memories of life together with family. Don enjoyed reading, gardening, planting trees, spending time with family, also taking care of business and looking after people and projects at the Manor. He was a kind soul and a real gentleman as well as a great father. Don always went out of his way to give people work who were struggling and would always think the best of people. Although soft spoken, he was a wonderful human being and always spoke highly of his friends and family whom he cared for always.
Donald is survived by his wife, Joan (Pickarts); his children, Timothy (Laurel) of Middleton, Steven, his son Felix of Madison, Patrick (Renee) and their children, Brooks and Macey of Middleton, and Gregory (Diane) and their children Cole, Grace Teddy and Jack of Cross Plains; and his brother, Joe (Loretta) Kalscheur, Jr.; sisters, Johanna Kalscheur, Mary Lou Schmitt, Beatrice (Roman) Statz, and Doris French. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alberta; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Caroline Pickarts; and brothers-in-law, Charles Pickarts Jr. and Roman Schmitt.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St Peter's Catholic Church, 7121 County Trunk K, Middleton. Rev. Tait Schroeder will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at St Mary's for the care provided to Don.
