Helt, Donald R. "Don" Sr.

Madison: Donald R. "Don" Helt Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Ashton on March 3, 1934 the son of William and Rose (Ripp) Helt . Don graduated from Middleton High School, and proudly served in the US Army. He was employed as a feed salesman by Middleton Farmers Co-Op for 49 years, where he made many friends. Don liked to listen to music, read, visit with friends, play cards, and watch the Cubs. He will always be remembered for his selfless nature, putting others before himself and never complaining. Even in his last days Don was more concerned about his family's welfare than his own.

Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary, sons, Donald Jr. (Kathleen), Gregory (Dawn), Michael (Jenn), Brian (Merri), and daughter Andrea (Rick) Ziegler, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers, Godfrey, Sylvester, Bill (Virginia), and Tony (Joan) Helt and his sister Dorothy (Gene) Voegli. Don was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and a sister. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at ST MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, WI 53711, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am . Burial will follow with military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary's Hospital for their compassionate care. Please share a memory.
