Don R. Hanson

Donald Russell Hanson was born November 18, 1944 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, WI, to Russ & Adeline (Lothe) Hanson. Don passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025 at the same hospital. Don was 80-years-young, with a strong faith, outliving 4 different cancers since age 48!

From his youth, Don was an avid outdoorsman. He was also an athlete & sports fan, playing softball into his 50s, golf, dart-ball & bowling into his 70s, and umpired softball until age 79. He hunted & fished until a few years ago.

His 1st marriage gave Don 3 sons, Russ, Tom & Dan Hanson. His 2nd marriage to Peg (Crawford) Juetten added a 4th son, Don Juetten. He was so proud of his 4 sons & many grandkids, and passed on his love of sports and the outdoors to them! Don & Peg celebrated 45 years of marriage on Feb 16. They had many travels, including Hawaii, Florida, D.R., as well as 30+ years of summer vacations on Big Sand Lake, MN. Don was the best, loving, caring husband to Peg! Don worked in mental health for Mendota's PACT program for 38 years. His retirement turned into working another 18 years as a bus driver for seniors at Sun Prairie's Colonial Club. Don was a caring friend to many, especially his kids & grandkids.

We'll miss our Wyoming hunting trips, Minnesota fishing trips, card playing, and cheering on the Badgers, Packers & Brewers, often with a cold beer or whiskey. Don was proud to attend Bristol Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, and knew Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior. It's our sincere hope that he gets to watch the Brewers win the World Series this year from heaven!

If you got to call Don Hanson "Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, friend, or husband," you were truly blessed! So it's with both sadness & gladness that we say goodbye to Don Hanson as heaven welcomes him home! We love you, Don!

Funeral-visitation will be Monday, August 11, 10:30am-12 at Bristol Lutheran Church, 6835 Cty Hwy N, Sun Prairie, WI 53590.Funeral service 12pm, with lunch to follow.
