Dolores Lillge

Beloved teacher and friend to many, Dolores Mae Lillge, age 76, died and entered through the gates to everlasting life on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Dolores was born the daughter of Norman and Anna (Springstroh) Lillge on January 20, 1936 in Appleton WI. Dolores attended Wartburg College in Waverly Iowa and graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in elementary education. She began her 35 year teaching career in Denver, Colorado. She returned to Madison in 1962 and taught at Shorewood and Crestwood Elementary Schools. Her love and gift of teaching enriched and nurtured the lives of hundreds of children until her retirement in 1993. She will be remembered by her many students for her love of writing, reading, and geology. In addition to her love of teaching, Dolores was an avid sports fan. She held season tickets to the Wisconsin Badger Basketball games for 25 years, and also played on a local softball team. She was very involved in volleyball and other sports with Greater Madison Sports for Active Seniors. She was an usher at the Madison Civic Center and Overture Center that allowed her to enjoy the wonderful music that was performed there. Dolores was an avid traveler who with friends especially enjoyed visits to historic places and to Ireland, Portugal, Budapest, Italy, Mexico, Greece, and Germany. In recent years Dolores enjoyed winter time hiking, biking, canoeing and playing competitive Scrabble in Sarasota Florida. Dolores was a faithful member of Advent Lutheran Church and Madison Christian Community and her presence at Worship, Bible Study, the Community group and Quilting group will be missed.. Dolores is survived by a niece; Jill (Mike) Swick, of Cameron, WI, and her nephews; Bruce, Todd (Debbie), and Scott (Sue), all of Appleton. She is further survived by many dear friends that have been touched by her kindness and wonderful generosity. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Ralph, Gordon (Barbara), and Melvin (Pat), and sister Bernice. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7118 Old Sauk Rd., Madison, WI 53717, with visitation from 10:30 am until the time of service.
