Dolores "Dee" A Buchler MD

Dolores A. Buchler MD, age 90, passed away on June 15, 2025. She was born in Casper, Wyoming and attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Dr. Buchler graduated from the Medical College of PA in 1961. This was followed by postgraduate education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology and Radiation Oncology, subsequently becoming board certified in those specialties.

In 1969, she came to Madison joining the Departments of OB-GYN and Radiation Oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health to develop the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. With the help of physicists, she established a program of high dose rate brachytherapy for gynecology oncology. During her academic career, Dr. Buchler published several articles, was active in various medical societies and university committees, and served a term as president of the hospital medical board.

For many years she served on the Board of Trustees at MacMurray College and was elected as a life member. In 2001 she was honored as an alumni of the year from that college. Later, Dr. Buchler received a distinguished Women’s Award from the YWCA in Madison.

In her younger years, Dee enjoyed riding her motorcycle and considered herself a concert bum. After retirement in 1995, she continued to enjoy many activities. Dee volunteered at Bethel Lutheran Church on Wisconsin Avenue, YWCA and Oakwood Prairie Ridge where she resided in later years. She was a member of Altrusa of Madison and was known as a cat lover.

Dee is preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26th at 11 am at Oakwood Village-Prairie Ridge, Tree Of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison with a luncheon to follow.
