Dirk Anker Christensen, age 60, of Madison, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 18, 2026.
Dirk was born on October 25, 1965 in Madison to Robert and Theodora Christensen. He graduated from West High School in 1983 and then attended UW Oshkosh.
As a social young man, Dirk gravitated towards the hospitality industry, cutting his teeth on both the East and West side of Madison, eventually landing at the Laurel Tavern where he was still employed.
Dirk was a generous, compassionate, and loyal person to all who knew him. His stoic (some may say grumpy) exterior belied his dry wit.
Dirk enjoyed his annual trips to Point Beach with “the boys” and to South Texas for his birthday with family where he paid homage to his beloved Dallas Cowboys by naming his dog Landry, who was the love of his life.
He played many years of softball with his friends where he earned the nickname “Circus” from his playmaking abilities. Dirk enjoyed AC/DC; which he got to enjoy last year in Minneapolis with his “boys” and the Rousers for which he basically served as a roadie for many years.
Dirk was preceded in death by his grandparents: Anker and Helen Christensen, Al and Betty Goettsch, and his parents, Robert and Theodora Christensen. Dirk is survived by his brother Erik (Gwen), Aunts; Karin (Don), Eve (Gary), and Wesley, his uncle Steve (Jane), and many cousins, and numerous friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Jeremy Kratz, and Jenna Wilke, and the staff at Carbone. A general thank you to all of his friends that came out and rallied for Dirk. A special thank you to Geoffrey Conner for being there for Dirk almost every day.
There will be a celebration of Dirk on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Louisianne’s in the upstairs party room from 1-4pm. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres provided. Please wear your most comfortable and casual attire, i.e. Cowboys gear (If you have any) or Aloha shirts and shorts in Dirk’s honor. As you all know how much Dirk liked to dress up.
