Madison-Delmar Charles Schreier passed away February 16th , 2013 peacefully at his residence. Del was born in Stockton, Illinois July 22, 1919.
As a senior in High School, Del was asked by the President of the Bank if he would work with them until he was drafted. Thus his career in banking began. His draft number came up in 1942 and he served in an Engineer Battalian in the European theater until he was discharged in November 1945. Del applied for a job at the Bank of Madison in December 1945 where he spent the rest of his career of 36 years. In the meantime he graduated from Wisconsin State School of Banking. The bank was merged with M&I. He was a Vice President. The bank is now BMO Harris Bank. Honest, straight forward, loving and kind are words which describe Del's dealings with customers, family and friends.
Del and Vernice were members of Bethel Lutheran Church. In retirement they enjoyed spending their winters in Florida or Arizona. The last years were in Ft. Myers, Florida. They moved to Heritage Oaks at Oakwood West in 2006 when that building was new.
Del is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Vernice, who he married in July 1943. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this summer. Also survived by son Dave in South Carolina, daughter Ginny in Waterloo, Ontario, granddaughter Becki and her mother Anne and niece Jane DeGolier. He was predeceased by his parents George and Anna and his brother Glen.
Special thanks go to Mike and Bev Thom, Dr. Lloyd, Agrace Hospice and friends at Oakwood West.
A memorial service will be held on a future date.
