Debra Wood

Sun Prairie - Debra Lynn Wood, age 64 passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 5, 1951 in Madison, the daughter of Earl and Florence (Kripps) Goodwin.

On May 20, 1972 Debra was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Wood. Together they raised two beautiful sons, Joe and Chad. Her life was completely devoted to her husband, children and her grandchildren. Even though Debra once was a city girl, farming was her passion and way of life. Her most recent passion, was the new farm that Debra and Jerry purchased, fixed up and stocked with Red Angus Cattle in Oklahoma. She always looked forward to making a trip to her new farm in Oklahoma. Christmas was her favored time of year, for many reasons... but most importantly bringing family and friends together. Debra was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed shopping, sewing, knitting, ice fishing, and hunting. One of her favorite pastimes was racing. She was not just a spectator; she was a knowledgeable race fan. Racing was huge part of her life and it was embedded into her heart and soul, from watching Jerry, Joe and Chad, along with NASCAR racing. Debra always could be found with a smile on her face. She had a warm, loving, friendly and uplifting personality with a heart of gold. Debra's inner beauty held qualities of strength, determination, and faith which shown through, even more vibrantly, in her daily achievements. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years; Jerry Wood, two children; Joe (Megan) Wood of Madison, Chad (Patti) Wood of Sun Prairie, five grandchildren; Jade, Derrick, Albert, Paige and Chase Wood, a brother; Earl Goodwin of Madison, sister; Trudy (John) Backer of Neenah, brothers-in-law; Jeff (Kim) Wood of Florida, Jim (Cathy) Wood of Madison, Johnny (LuAnne) Wood of Sun Prairie, and sister-in-law; Julie (Jeff) Wood of Madison and her beloved bulldog Mercedes. Debra is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, other loving family and many many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother and father in law; Jerry and Audrey Wood Sr.

Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with Reverend Jeff Vanden Heuvel officiating. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie on Monday, December 14, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Entombment at Roselawn Cemetery will follow the services.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Deming, Anica, Elizabeth, Kathy, Stephanie and all the staff at UW-Carbone Cancer Center for their exceptional care, kindness and compassion they gave Debbie. Words cannot express the gratitude; the entire Wood family has for Sarah Thompson, who unselfishly helped Debbie travel through the end of her journey.
