Our beloved wife/daughter/sister/mother/and best friend, Deborah Dodge Durkee, died on Sunday, January 25, 2015.
She was born on August 28, 1953, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of David and Marjorie Johnson. The Johnson family moved to Madison, WI in 1957, where Deborah attended the Glenn W. Stevens Elementary School and West High School.
She married Donald Durkee in 1978. She worked as a cook for many years for the Madison School District and M.A.T.C., where she ended her employment with the prestige rank of Chef. She then retired, in 2008, as a result of an industrial accident.
She is survived by her husband, Donald and two children, Jason and Kristin Durkee; son-in-law, Brad Smithson; grandson, Drew Durkee; brother, Tim Johnson; and her father, David B. Johnson, all of Madison.
Deborah enjoyed traveling, especially to her family cottage in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, as well as spending time in Hilton Head, South Carolina with her family. She had a lifelong love of animals, and was especially close to her two dogs Holly and Sadie. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time at home surrounded by her family and beloved pets.
She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, son, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, father, and brother, as well as by the many lives she touched along her journey in life.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service.
