Deanne “Dee” Henning, age 85, of Waunakee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 8, 1940, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dee was the daughter of Adrien and Mildred Gardner. She spent her childhood in Ashley, Dickinson and Golva, North Dakota, before the family moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school.
On June 11, 1960, Dee married Ivan “Red” Henning, the love of her life. They raised two children in Redwood Falls and later moved to Waunakee, Wisconsin, where they delighted in watching their family grow. Dee was known for her humor and quick wit, a kind, warm, and caring spirit. She was an excellent seamstress who loved sewing and taught that craft to her daughter, granddaughter, and others. Dee and Red were devoted lifelong Vikings fans who enjoyed sharing games and traditions with family. Some of Dee’s greatest joys were simple family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dee is survived by her children Jim Henning (Chris) and Jan Almquist; grandchildren Jeremy (Kelsey), Matt, Nicholas, and Jessica; and great-granddaughters Morgan and Reese, and brother Richard ‘Dick’ (Jane) Gardner, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan “Red” Henning, and her parents, Adrian and Mildred Gardner. Dee’s loving presence as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Waunakee Senior Living and Agrace Hospice for their exceptional care and support, and to the people from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for their weekly visits with Dee.
