Deerfield/Sun Prairie- Dean R. Gotzion, 81, passed away on January 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Steven F. and Evelyn Gotzion. Dean grew up on the east side of Madison and attended East High School. Dean began his military service in 1954 in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany for 18 months where he served as a Petroleum Specialist and truck driver. Upon his return he served as an active reservist in the National Guard. Dean retired from the National Guard in 1993 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. In his years of service Dean was awarded The Good Conduct Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Write Medal with five Silver Emblems, the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement and he was an Expert with the Carbine, Pistol and Rifle. Most of his service was with the 13th Evac Hospital where he cherished many of the life-long friendships he made.
Prior to his military service, Dean worked at the Madison Kipp Corporation. Dean met the love of his life, Marion, in 1950 and they were married in 1952. Dean started his flooring business, Gotzion Ceramic Tile in 1965. Dean and Marion lived in Madison until 1968, they then made their home in Deerfield. Later, Dean became a co-owner and founder of Central Ceiling Systems, also located in Deerfield.
Dean was a member of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield, and was also a member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the VFW and lifetime member of the Deerfield Rod and Gun Club where he served on the Board of Directors and Treasurer for many years.
Dean is survived by his wife, Marion (Bredeson) Gotzion, three children, Beth (David) Zedaker, Deanna (Jeff) Horne and Steven J. Gotzion and his fianc� Tracey Wescott. Grandchildren David, Brandon, Matthew, Eric, Alex, Aven and Lily. Siblings Doris Payne and David Gotzion, sister-in-law Pauline Bredeson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Llew Bredeson, Phil Bredeson and Theodore (Butch) Payne and sisters-in-law Kay Gotzion and Patricia Bredeson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 31, St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield. Visitation will be Friday, January 30th, 3p.m. to 7 p.m., Cress Funeral Home, 201 Bue Street, Deerfield and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church or to the Wounded Warrior Project in Dean's memory. Please share your memories.
