David Brian Kissinger, a beloved brother, son, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at the age of 56, following a courageous battle with liver cancer.
Born on October 31, 1967, to Chris (Anderson/Kissinger) Roberts and Ken Kissinger, David was a joyful, kind, and curious child, full of energy, whose shenanigans landed him in the ER more than once and always seemed to make for a good story. His determination and work ethic were evident early in life, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout while in high school. He graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, WI in 1986.
David spent 35 years working at Rayovac (now Spectrum) as a battery technician, where he was a respected employee and formed lasting friendships with his coworkers. Following the closure of Spectrum in the Madison area, David found new opportunities at Octopi Brewery.
David’s life was rich with a variety of interests and activities. He was a bowler, softball player, and golfer, and his love for music often found him attending concerts. He was an active member of the Sugar River ATV Club, taking part in adventurous ATV trips with friends. His love for the outdoors extended to hunting in Wisconsin's Driftless Area at R-Land and making annual fishing trips to Canada with friends. One of the highlights of his year was spending a week each summer with his family in St. Germain, a tradition he eagerly anticipated.
David's warmth and generosity were most evident in his role as an uncle. His nieces and nephews cherished the love and playful attention he gave them, from birthdays and Christmases to his presence at their events, be it dance recitals, baseball games, or track meets. He was a constant source of support and joy, a true light in their lives, and in the lives of all who knew him. He also had a knack for telling entertaining stories that tested the boundary between truth and fiction. "Uncle Dave" was adored by all.
David is survived by his mother, Chris (Anderson) Roberts, his father, Ken Kissinger, his sister Sara (Jarrett) Calhoun, his stepsisters Ann Cary and Lynn (Michal) Sedivy, and his six beloved nieces and nephews: Quintin and Leah Calhoun, Evan and Clover Cary, and Anna and Oliver Sedivy.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kratz and the dedicated staff at the Carbone Cancer Center and Agrace Hospice for their care during David's illness.
Additionally, the family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Galbraith and Nurse Katelin at the Marshfield Medical Center for their kindness and compassion during Dave’s final hours.
David will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. His unwavering love, positive spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. The Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., with light refreshments served following the service. The Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carbone Cancer Center, Agrace Hospice, or the Sugar River ATV Club in David’s honor.
