David Bleifield

August 19, 1943 — January 29, 2017

David Bleifield left this earthly home on Sunday, January 29, 2017. David had been challenged for years by a strange malady known as "dogjaw". This affliction caused him to tell preposterous tall tales whenever he opened his mouth. When hearing these stories, the typical response was to turn to Dave's wife, Carol, and ask "Is that true?" David's life ended peacefully at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg as a result of a chronic blood disorder.

David was born in Morris, Illinois on August 19, 1943. He graduated from Morris High School in 1961 and received a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from the University of Illinois in 1966. David worked for the Roy D. Murphy Architectural firm in Urbana, Illinois from 1964 until 1969. In 1969 he took a position with Marshall Erdman and Associates in Madison where he headed its modular construction program which specialized in small medical buildings until his retirement in 2000.

In retirement, David's focus became the other loves of his life: his family, sailing, traveling and a renewed passion in painting. He also found time to volunteer at his church, Waunakee Neighborhood Connection, and Habitat for Humanity. He was proud to have helped start the Waunakee Westport Soccer program and aimed to instill a sense of self confidence in kids. He believed in treating everyone, especially young people, with respect.

David is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carol; his daughter, Elaina Bleifield (Roy Tschida) and granddaughters, Marina and Karissa Tschida of Mendota Heights, MN; and his son, Erik Bleifield (Molly) and grandchildren, Ben and Bridget Bleifield of Waukesha, WI; and his sister, Linda Best (Ed Best) of Sugarland, Texas. David was adored by his nieces and nephews, Ann Best, Susan Winters, Scott Rickey, Kelly Griffin and Kira Rickey. He was one of a kind and will be missed for all of the joy we had together.

David will be forever remembered for his wild and wacky sense of humor. He loved to wear hats and shirts that made a statement and made us laugh. He loved God and passionately valued honesty and integrity and lived his life in such a way that he would have no regrets.
