Daniel “Dan” James Standiford, 70, passed away on October 5, 2025, after an extremely difficult two-year battle with pancreas cancer. Through it all, he never lost hope and never complained. His wife, Beth, and son, Nathan, were in awe of his strength and determination.
Dan was born in Reeseville, Wisconsin, to Gordon and Sue Standiford. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering love for his family.
Dan was employed by the State of Wisconsin for 35 years and retired in 2010. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment earned the respect of everyone who worked with him.
He was the devoted husband and best friend of Beth Standiford, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. They were married on September 27, 1980, and together built a life grounded in love, respect, joy, and deep friendship.
Dan was a proud and loving father to his son, Nathan Standiford, who was the light of his life.
He often said that all he needed in this world was Beth and Nathan—a simple truth that reflected his deep love and contentment. Dan had few wants or needs beyond the happiness and well-being of his family.
In October of 2024, Nathan gifted Dan with the car of his dreams—a 1962 Chevy Impala SS. Dan had spoken of wanting that car for most of his adult life, and receiving it was truly a dream come true. It brought him immense joy and pride, serving as a lasting symbol of the love between father and son.
He loved the outdoors and found joy in fishing, hiking, boating, traveling, and viewing wildlife with Beth by his side. He appreciated the simple beauty of nature and was always up for any kind of adventure. Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and an easy laugh that could brighten any room. He brought joy and comfort to those around him, often using humor to lighten even the hardest moments. In his later years, he could often be heard yelling at the TV while watching political news—a reminder of his passionate, one-of-a-kind personality.
Dan will be remembered for his warm heart, steady presence, and the way he made others feel truly seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his generosity, compassion, and quiet strength.
Dan is survived by his wife, Beth, and his son, Nathan Standiford; his siblings Pat Whempner, Mark (Teri) Standiford, Donna Freund, Tim (Mary Beth) Standiford, Patrick Standiford, and Lisa Kreger; and his sister-in-law Nicki Chapman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends Jim Howe and Jim Leitzinger.
He was preceded in death by his sister Kristina “Tina” Standiford; parents Gordon and Sue Standiford; brother-in-law Greg Freund; and his very special brother, Peter Standiford.
At the request of the family, no services will be held.
“You're gonna have to leave me, now I know,
But I'll see you in the sky above.
In the tall grass in the ones I love
You're gonna make me lonesome when you go”
-Bob Dylan
Dan was a very special, one-of-a-kind person and will be truly missed. May he rest in peace.
