Daniel
Bier
Jan 28, 1948 — Oct 3, 2026
Madison
Daniel Bier, 78, died on October 3, 2026 at Meriter Hospital due to heart complications. He was raised in Janesville, Wisconsin. Following graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he served six years as a social worker at Central Wisconsin Colony in Madison, 20 years as Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of Perinatal Care and 16 years as an Associate Director at the Waisman Center, UW-Madison.
Dan was an enthusiast of all things Madison. He and Ann were regulars at neighborhood festivals, Concerts on the Square, any number of live music venues and most of all the Union Terrace. He spent countless evenings with friends and family having a beer, enjoying the ambiance, discussing any topic and sharing many laughs.
Dan is survived by his wife and forever love, Ann Knapstein, his cherished daughter Kaitlin (Jay Plasman), and grandsons Wesley and Adler. He is survived by siblings Shirley Divita of Crystal Lake, IL; Richard (Gloria) Bier of Bloomington, IN; Thomas (Katherine) Bier of Madison, and Michael (Cindy) Bier of Janesville.
Dan enjoyed a lifetime of work, love, fun and conversation. When asked, “How would you like to be remembered?” Dan confidently and peacefully replied with a smile, “as they remember me.”
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., from 9:30 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Waisman Center.
Please share your memories in the guestbook area.
