SUN PRAIRIE-- Dan E. Olson, age 69, of Sun Prairie, WI passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at UW Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1954 in Marinette, WI, the son of Carl and Carole (Faber) Olson.
Dan graduated from Marinette Catholic High School, class of 1972. He received his BS degree in Geology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976 and went on to earn his master’s degree and PHD from UW Madison. Dan retired in 2019 from Edgewood College in Madison after enjoying his career being a science professor for over 20 years.
Dan enjoyed spending time with family and his dear friends. Some of those friendships that formed and continued since high school and college. The times Dan cherished most was always time spent with family where he relished in family dinners with everyone gathered together, family time in trips shared together, or traveling with his wife, Judy, to various destinations in their 26 years of marriage together.
Dan especially held dear to his heart time spent with his grandchildren and the yearly tradition of traveling to Marinette and to Menomonee Michigan to the annual Waterfront Festival. Other hobbies included his passion for genealogy and his extensive research in family history. Ren Faire events, hiking for rocks to share with his students, and various other outdoor excursions also filled Dan’s days with happiness.
Dan is survived by his wife Judy; daughter Lisa (Toby) Grossen; grandchildren Sarah and Toby; brothers Steve (shin) Olson of Florida and Ron Olson of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters-in-law Pauline and Enid.
