Fose, Dale Clarence
SUN PRAIRIE -- Dale Clarence Fose, age 90, died peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital with his wife, Margaret, at his side.
Born November 23, 1923 at Madison General Hospital (later became Meriter Hospital) in Madison, Wisconsin to Clarence M. Fose and Dorothy C. Lang Fose. He graduated from St. Bernard's Catholic School in 1938 and Madison East High School in 1942 where he was a member of the football and track teams.
In the fall of 1942 he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While there he volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was sworn in on December 13, 1942. During his enlistment he graduated from AACS radio mechanics school and was assigned as a radio mechanic for Blind Landing and Radio Range duties. Following his service in the Air Corps he was honorably discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on February 20, 1946.
In the fall of 1946 he reentered the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in Letters and Science. His business career was in sales with United States Gypsum Company, Kraft Foods, Oscar Mayer & Co. and International Salt Company. He retired in 1980.
On August 28, 1948 he married Margaret Horkey at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Madison. He and Margaret loved to travel, especially in Europe, and also attended many stage plays in various Midwest theaters. They also participated in over fifty Road Scholar (Elderhostel) programs in the US and Europe. He was a member of the original horseshoes team in Sun Prairie for 30 years and bowled in the Major League with a Sun Prairie bowling team for 23 years. Dale also served as an usher at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie for over 40 years. Prior to moving to Sun Prairie in 1971, he also served as an usher at Christ the King Catholic Church in Minneapolis for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret, sons Steve (Linda), Maumelle, Arkansas, Gary (Laurie), Woodbury, MN, Jim (Janet), Bear, Delaware, Dan (Mary), Madison, WI, Mike (Carey), Middleton, WI, daughter Teresa Welscher (Bill), Maple Grove, MN; grandsons, Jason, John, James, Nate, Mike, Carter and Christopher, granddaughters; Jennifer, Amanda, Rachel, Jacqueline, Melissa, Whitney, Sarah, great-grandsons, Xavier and Andrew, sister Rita Fose Collins, Orlando, Florida, sister-in-law Rita Bisbee Fose, McFarland, WI, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorothy Fose, brother, Duane J. Fose, infant son, Robert Charles Fose, infant granddaughter, Megan Fose, brother-in-law, Robert Collins and nephew, David Fose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS & MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. A luncheon will follow the mass at the church. Private family visitation will be held. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Hearts Building & Grounds Fund.
