Waunakee/Madison - Coyla M. Anderson, age 101, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Coyla was born on January 25, 1915 on a farm near Boyd, Minnesota. In 1918 the family moved to the Pickeral Lake area near Wist. In 1933, she graduated from Sisseton High School and in 1938 she received a two year teaching certificate. Coyla taught in three different one room rural schools in the Webster Waubay area. In 1943, she married Charles Anderson of Waubay. Upon Charles's death in 1957 in Rapid City, she returned to teach in Webster Elementary School. She completed her four year teaching degree from Northern State College in 1965. Coyla taught in Webster for a total of 21 years until her retirement in 1980. She moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 2001, living for 15 years at Coventry Village and Waunakee Manor. Left to survive are her daughter, Karen Thune (Peter) Tegen; six grandchildren, Ryan (Zahara) Thune and his family, Nic Thune, Suzanne (John Clasby) Tegen and her family, Annie (Jonah Harrison)Tegen and her family; Alexa (Seth Rittenhouse) Halford and Karl (Cindy) Halford and his family and son-in-law, Robert Halford. She will be sadly missed by all including her eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Minnesota. Coyla was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and Martin Romsaas, two sisters, Arlyce and Bernice, her husband, Charles Anderson and daughter Collette Halford. A memorial services will be held at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Webster, South Dakota on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Coyla to the charity of your choice.
