Corinne Groehler

January 2, 1939 — February 24, 2017

Madison- Corinne Daisy Groehler passed away peacefully on February 24, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Corinne was born on January 2, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Hubert and Effie Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her son, Jared Groehler. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ken; her daughters, Leah Groehler and Stephanie Monk; sons-in-law David Penn and Andrew Monk; and sister Kathleen Wendland.

Corinne was a devoted spouse, parent and sister, a loyal friend, a passionate Badgers fan (regardless of the sport), and had an infectious laugh which would invariably light up the room. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she had many friends. She loved to join her girlfriends every Wednesday for their knitting group. She enjoyed chatting with people at the house, meeting friends for dinner and reading quietly at home. She wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed in and could show her defiant streak when needed, setting an example for which her daughters will be forever grateful.

She gave generously of her talents: she started her "L'Chaim" project after her son Jared died, knitting sets of 18 mittens for each year of his life and donating these to Lutheran World Relief (she eventually knitted over 200 pairs). She also joined a project through St. John's where she created midwife kits for women in developing countries. She also knitted prayer shawls for those with illness or who just needed comfort, and enjoyed making baptismal blankets for St. John's.

Corinne will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. She had a great impact on many people's lives and the stories we have of her will keep her in our lives forever.
