MADISON - Cora O. Christensen, 103, died at her home on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Oakwood Village West where she had been a resident since 1998.
She was born on the family farm in Northfield Twp., Jackson Co., WI on Nov 30, 1910 to the late Halvor and Anna Mary Samuelson Nelson. In 1927 she moved to Madison and worked at the UW Hospital Dining Room where she met Harold Christensen. She and Harold were married on Sept 10, 1938 in Pigeon Falls, WI. Harold died in 1974.
Cora resided in the Westmorland neighborhood of Madison for 55 years before moving to Oakwood. She was an avid bridge player and longtime member of Luther Memorial Church. In 1972 she retired from the UW McArdle Laboratory. She enjoyed practicing Norwegian family traditions brought to the US by her parents and grandparents.
Survivors include son, Robert Christensen of San Francisco, CA; son, Donald Christensen (Sharon) of Arkdale, WI; grandsons Ross (Teresa) Christensen of Platteville, WI and Chad (Ashley) Christensen of Ridgeway, WI; great-granddaughters Cassie, Cailyn and Addison; and great-grandsons Colton and Easton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters; Hilda Schellhorn, Emma Jerdee, Thelma Thompson, Hilma Peterson and brothers; Hilmen, Elvin, Olger, James and George Nelson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Resurrection Chapel Oakwood Village West, 6201 Mineral Point Rd, Madison. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Luther Memorial Church or Oakwood Foundation.
