Clark Mcmillen

Madison- Clark Arnold McMillen Jr., 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, October 29, 2013. He was born March 3, 1920 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Clark Arnold and Eleanor (Barnes) McMillen. He enjoyed growing up in Decatur and had many lifelong friends from his youth. He attended Exeter Academy, NH but contracted scarlet fever and left for six months to recover. He graduated the Hun School, Princeton, NJ and went on to Northwestern University. He was in the class of 1943 and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
During World War II, from 1943 to 1946, he served in destroyer and amphibious craft in the Okinawa Campaign as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.
He spent his career working in the property and casualty insurance business, first for Excelsior in Decatur, Continental in Milwaukee, Niagara in Indianapolis and Madison, Fish & Schulkamp in Madison.
His move to Madison led to meeting Alta Mae Freund Lorenz. They wed on October 12, 1957. They enjoyed many years together and were longtime residents of Nakoma. Arnie enjoyed being a member of the Maple Bluff Country Club and the Elks Club. He was active in Grace Episcopal Church and often ushered.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Mae, son Thomas Lorenz, granddaughter Lisa Bosworth and his sisters Jane McMillen, Mary (Erwin) Bartelsmeyer, Eleanor (Thomas) Hendrix.
Arnie is survived by a daughter, Susan Lorenz, granddaughter Tracy (Larry) Bosche, grandson Edward (Jessica Fuentes) Bowersox, great-grandchildren Parker and Annie Bosche, brother-in-law William F (Dorothy) Freund, nieces Freya, Joey, Tricia and nephew Fritz Freund, nieces Judy Moulton, Nancy (Jack) Waters, Jane (Jack) McGann and nephews Bill (Barbara) Bartelsmeyer, Tom Hendrix. Arnie was also close to his great-nieces and nephews, Julie, Kim, Jeff, Ken, Scott and Brian. Kitty & Ken Mabbatt, Renee Finnegan, Ann Johnsrud, Alina & Patrick Rodriguez, Jayneen Jiron, his neighbors Sandra, Marcia and Kermit all had special meaning to him.
He was a loving and kind father and beloved by all of his extended family, who will miss him deeply.
Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church,116 W. Washington Ave., starting with visitation at 10am Saturday November 2, 2013 at the church followed by the funeral with a Military burial at Forest Hill Cemetery.
