Clarence Hamre

December 16, 1918 — August 3, 2012

Madison: Clarence Gustav Hamre passed away on Friday, August 3, 2012, at Agrace Hospice at age 93.

Clarence was born December 16, 1918, to Gustav and Anna (Gronli) Hamre. He married Lucille Ann Kvanvig in 1940. He served in the Army 80th Division during World War II in Europe. From 1946 - 1982, Clarence worked in the UW-Madison Carpenter Shop, retiring as its supervisor. Everyone at work called him Gus.

Golfing in the UW employee's golf league and with friends, bowling, euchre, and bridge were some of his favorite activities. He was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Clarence is survived by Lucille, his wife for 72 years, son James (Mary) Hamre, daughter Judy Olson, three grandchildren: Mike Pankratz, Andy Olson, and Heather Bourne (Ian Pilarczyk), twin great-grandchildren: Samantha and Emma Pilarczyk, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers: Stanley Hamre and Gilbert Hamre, his sister Gladys Olson, and his grandson Michael Bourne.

A memorial service for Clarence will be held on Friday, August 10, at 1:30 pm in Resurrection Chapel at Oakwood Village West, 6205 Mineral Point Road. Pastor Curtis Everson will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethel Lutheran Church Television Ministry, Madison, Wisconsin, or the organization of your choice.
