Madison - Clarence James Brown, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born on May 22, 1939 in Walworth, Wis., the son of Edward and Dorphia Brown.
Clarence attended and graduated from U.W. Madison. He was hired as a paraprofessional in CTS in 1973 and later was the professional cataloger for U.W. Madison from 1980 - 2008. He was a longtime steward for both his unions, WSEU and WEAC. He was also a longtime editor of the monthly newsletter of AFSCME Local 2412. Clarence was a devotee of music and had an expansive collection of CD's, mainly classical music. He loved reading and enjoyed cooking for others.
He is survived by his sister, Dorphia (Jerry) David; nephews, Jeremy (Molly) David, Jared (Renee) David, Joel (Carol) David, and Jonathan David; and 6 great nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Marty Brown; and brother, Edward Brown.
A celebration of life gathering will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Memorial Library Commons, in room 460, at 728 State St., Madison. He will be laid to rest at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, CO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in the memory of Clarence Brown be made to the U.W. Madison Foundation for the Library Impact Fund., US Bank Lockbox 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278.
