Cheryl Jean Williams (née Brandt), age 79, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at UW Hospital/Agrace Hospice in Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Born on February 22, 1946, in Madison, Wisconsin, Cheryl remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life. She graduated from Madison Area Technical College and went on to dedicate nearly three decades of service to the State of Wisconsin. Her career culminated in her retirement from the Department of Health and Social Services as a Financial Specialist after 29 and a half years of committed work.

Cheryl was a woman of many passions and talents. A gifted singer with a beautiful voice, she found joy and purpose through music. She was an active member of a non-denominational church where she not only sang with a group but also wrote numerous songs that were performed at various events. Her musical contributions were even captured on a recorded CD - a testament to her dedication and love for sharing music with others. Cheryl also enjoyed learning to play the piano and took great delight in watching her grandchildren explore their own musical talents.

Her adventurous spirit led her across the globe; one of her most memorable journeys was a solo month-long trip through Europe, where she explored Germany and Italy. During her time in Germany, she discovered a striking plant seed in the forest that she brought home to plant in her yard. The seed flourished—perhaps too well—growing over ten feet tall and eventually spreading into the neighbor’s yard. Removing it became quite the endeavor, but it remained one of many stories that reflected Cheryl’s curiosity and zest for life.

Gardening was another passion that brought Cheryl peace and fulfillment. She could spend hours tending to her yard, nurturing plants with care and patience. Her garden was not just a place of beauty but also one filled with memories and stories—some humorous, some heartfelt—that those who knew her will continue to share.

Cheryl's legacy lives on through her family: her brother Steven (Sherry) Brandt; her children Ronald (Barbara) Williams, Sandra Graf, Susan Snyder, Michael (Shawn) Williams, and Louis (Jody) Williams; grandchildren Aaron Graf, Brianna Graf (Kolin Dix), Christopher Graf, Ashley (Matt) Grams, Brandon (Alie Filpi) Williams, Colton Williams, Ronald Williams Jr., Rachel Williams, Gary Roof Jr., Curtis Roof, Randi Williams, and Renee Williams; and great-grandchildren Connor Graf, Lilyana Graf, Harmony Graf, Kade Dix, Baby Grams, Kian Williams, Gianna Williams, Ophelia Williams, Mylie Williams, Zoe Williams, Dustin “Dewey” Williams Jr., Sophia Williams, and Anthony Williams. Her nephews Randy (DeEtte) Speranza and Danny (Theresa) Speranza, great nephew Andrew Speranza.

She was preceded in death by her parents Milo and Ruth Brandt (Domke), sister LeeAnn Worley and great granddaughter Chloe Williams.

Cheryl’s life was marked by creativity, independence, faith, and deep love for family. Her presence enriched every gathering with music or laughter—and often both. Those who knew her carry cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort in the days ahead.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at a later date. May her memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
