Madison-Cheryl K Ackerman, 75, died peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, surrounded by her family. Cheryl was born April 14, 1937 in New York City, where she lived most of her life. She had a long career as an accountant, working as a comptroller at several businesses in New York and Asheville, North Carolina. Her hobbies included reading about ancient civilizations and religion, buying and selling books online, collecting enamel butterfly boxes and, most recently, learning to use her iPad. She loved being GiGi to great-granddaughter, Ada, and having tea parties and playing pretend games with her. She will be greatly missed.
Cheryl is survived by daughters Caryn Birkhauser (Robert), Verona, and Doris Roeder (Howard), Laguna Niguel, California, grandchildren Elizabeth (Gabe Newstate), Katherine (Sean Fisher) and Stephen (Suzi Dittus-Blitz) Birkhauser, and Jason and Kaela Roeder, beloved great-granddaughter Ada Fisher, sisters Rhoda Pelliccia (Don) of Acra, NY and Myrna Schlossberg (Joe) of Ashburn, VA. Brother David Labell (Lisa) of Cooper City, FL, nieces, nephews and her cat, Buby. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Madison, for the annual Blooming Butterflies event.
