McFarland

Charles Rogers Larsen, age 88, of McFarland, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2026, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Janet for 65 wonderful years. Charles led a full and happy life marked by dedication to both his career and family.

Charles was born on October 16, 1937, in Superior, Wisconsin, to parents Harry and Elizabeth (Rogers) Larsen. He graduated from Superior East High School in 1955 and from the University of Wisconsin, Superior in 1959. He attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, graduating in 1962.

He began his legal career in private practice alongside his father, in Superior. There he also served as a member of the Air National Guard Reserves in Duluth. In 1972 Charles took a job as an Assistant Attorney General for the Wisconsin Department of Justice. His most satisfying work there was in the Civil Litigation Unit, defending negligence cases. He retired in 1999.

Upon retiring, Charles enjoyed his daily morning walks, sailing trips with family and friends and traveling with Janet, including several trips to Europe. He served on the Dane County Condemnation Commission and the McFarland Zoning Board. He would say he was happiest when he spent time with his family. He was a devoted grandfather who would travel whenever he could to share their concerts, sports games and celebrations. Taking an annual trip to Waupaca with his entire family was something he looked forward to every summer. He loved being known as “Gumpa” to his six grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Karen Larsen; son Douglas Larsen (Kimberley); daughter, Jennifer Winter (Henrik); grandchildren Christian, James and Elizabeth Winter and William, Benjamin and Katherine Larsen; brother-in-law James Anderson; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katrine Anderson.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Agrace Hospice Care, especially Kristin Keir, for their compassionate care.

Per Charles’ wishes, no service will be held.
