Charles Conklin

July 6, 1938 — August 2, 2012

Middleton: Charles Daniel "Chuck" Conklin, 74, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, in Bayfield, WI. A contemplative man, compassionate Marine, and gentle soul, he died living, free diving in Lake Superior.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane (Ungrodt) Conklin; his three daughters, Kathleen Marie Conklin, Patrice Alexandra Conklin, and Julia Beth Prohaska (David); and six adoring granddaughters, Quinn, Lily, Trinity, Sydney (Patrice); Ava and Isabel (Julia).
Chuck was born on July 6, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donna Smits Conklin and Charles Edward Conklin. He is survived by his sisters Jackie (Ron) and Sharon and their children; sister in-law Lyn Ungrodt, nephews Brennan and Jedd (Heidi) Ungrodt; and sister in-law Jan Parks and nephews Steve (Marci) and Mark Ungrodt.
Chuck attended UW-Madison and graduated with a degree in Philosophy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with assignments in special operations. He retired as Vice President of Marketing and Promotions for CUNA Mutual Group after 30 years.
He loved art and boats and water and planes and sky and deeply missed his dog. He played golf every summer and regularly declared he would never play again.

A visitation will take place from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI 53705 with a memorial Celebration of Chuck's life at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the American Heart Association or the Dane County Humane Society.
