Charles "Chuck" Valliere

WAUNAKEE-Charles "Chuck" Valliere died Monday July 17, 2023 following a brief illness. He was born to Hiram and Florence (Schwartz) Valliere on Aug. 12, 1950 and grew up on “the res” in Lac du Flambeau. He cherished the time spent with his dad learning carpentry and even later in life when someone asked what did you do, he’d first say that he was a carpenter. College days were spent at UW Stout and Stevens Point.

He met Lynn Schmale in 1981 and they married in 1986. They lived in Madison then in the town of Westport from 1992 to the present.

After moving to Madison in 1981, he worked in labs at the University of WI in the Anatomy and Biochemistry departments, Bone Care International and Waisman Biomanufacturing center. While at Bone Care International, he helped with the development and subsequent FDA approval of Hectorol, a drug for dialysis patients.

Chuck enjoyed hunting, kayaking, fly fishing, tying flies and spending time at their place up in the White Lake area. He was president of the Wolf River Chapter of Trout Unlimited and also volunteered teaching fly tying, casting and fishing with Veterans on the Fly and Project Green Teen at Shabazz High School. The weekly sheepshead games were a winter tradition for many years.

Everyone who knew him will remember him as a generous volunteer, avid fly fisherman, awesome cheesecake baker and great storyteller. Various flavored cheesecakes were expected, provided and enjoyed by all at events he attended.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn and siblings, Robert (Sue), Greg (Jeanne), Richard and Janice (Randy) Stevenson along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Hiram and Florence.

An informal Celebration of Life will be held at Rex’s Innkeeper on Monday Aug 7, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
