Charles Frederick "Chuck" Bils

Charles Frederick Bils "Chuck", age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, March 29, 2024 with his wife Marge at his side. He was born in Waukegan Illinois on September 19, 1941 to Stephen and Evelyn (Brenton) Bils.


Chuck was a graduate of Waukegan High School in 1959, Valparaiso University in 1963 and University of Wisconsin Law School in 1966. After law school, Chuck worked in private practice, for the State of Wisconsin in the Department of Natural Resources and in the Legislative Reference Bureau and then with Credit Union National Association (CUNA). He retired from CUNA in 2000.


In 1966, Chuck married Gloria Bruch and together they had three children, Jeffrey, Barbara and Michael.  In 1986, Chuck married Marge and together they had Zachary. Chuck and Marge were married almost 38 years.


Chuck was a faithful Christian and served his Lord in many capacities at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in choir as a bass, as Sunday School Superintendent, as an elder, as executive director of the congregation and as member of many boards. He also volunteered at Calvary Lutheran Chapel and Madison Literacy Network.


Chuck enjoyed playing racquetball, basketball and softball for many years. He was a faithful fan of UW Badger basketball and football, Packers football and Chicago Cubs baseball. He enjoyed taking trips around Wisconsin and exploring out of the way places with his family. He also traveled to many interesting places for CUNA in the United States and overseas.


Chuck enjoyed and participated in the activities of all his children, attending numerous sports and school events. He was a wonderful father. Chuck was known for his dry sense of humor and puns, singing rock and roll songs, his funny finger tricks and his unique way of whistling. He was a kind, loving and smart man who will be greatly missed.


Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Marge, children Jeffrey (Ariana), Barbara( Kyle) White, Michael (Lindsay) and Zachary, grandchildren Madison (Christian) Roberts, Keegan (Katelyn) White, Nicholas and Liana Bils, brother Richard (Jane) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brother Steve, sisters Helen Hill and Marjorie Norman.


Funeral services will be held on Monday April 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 110 North Whitney Way Madison Wi 53705. Visitation will take place starting at 9:30 a.m, until the time of service. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison Wi.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Mount Olive Lutheran Church 110 N. Whitney Way Madison Wi 53705, or Agrace Hospice, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg Wi 53711. Thank you to Agrace Hospice and Senior Helpers for the wonderful care Chuck received over the past year. Our family is forever grateful.
