Carroll S. Hawkinson

May 18, 1912 — September 5, 2010

STOUGHTON -Carroll S. Hawkinson, a long life is over for 98 year old Carroll ""Kelly"" Hawkinson with his passing on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at his farm home in the town of Dunn.   Carroll Stanley Hawkinson was born May 18, 1912, in the home where he lived his entire life. His late parents were Alfred M. Hawkinson and Emma A. (Lewis) Hawkinson. He attended Lakeside School and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1931 and was a life long member of First Lutheran Church in Stoughton.   On July 20, 1941 Kelly married the former Lorraine Lee of Stoughton and on that date this year, the couple celebrated their 69th anniversary. They have two children, Dennis and Donna.   For many years Kelly maintained a dairy/tobacco farm and also worked for almost 30 years for the Stoughton Highway Trailer Company. An avid baseball player, Kelly played at various times with the Home Talent League teams of Stoughton, Oregon and McFarland. A top-notch pitcher, he was invited by the noted Connie Mack of the Philadelphia Phillies to join the farm team with possible team play. Farm responsibilities and parental objection prevented him from accepting.   Following baseball, Kelly took up the game of golf, just giving it up a few years ago. Kelly enjoyed camping in the state parks, playing cards with friends and following his teams, the Brewers and Packers and UW teams.   Survivors include his wife Lorraine, one son, Dennis of Cambridge, Illinois; one daughter Donna, of West Palm Beach, Florida. Three granddaughters, Carrie (Andy) Blasi, Parkland, Florida, Erica (Frank) Alletto, Western Springs, IL, and Lauren Ross, New York City, New York and four great grandchildren, Michael, Alexander, Samuel and Emma, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Myron Hauge, of Stoughton and Shirley and Al Richardson of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and a young brother, Howard   Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 310 Washington Street in Stoughton. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Stoughton. Friends of the family may call on Friday, September 10, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, 206 West Prospect Ave. Stoughton.   Memorials may be made to Stoughton Home Talent Baseball League team. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to HospiceCare and their staff.
