Carol Jean Rivers, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother peacefully passed away at UW Hospital on January 26, 2024, with her family by her sides.

Carol was born on October 16, 1936, at then Madison General Hospital to Hector and Caroline (Maurer) Evans.  She graduated in 1954 from Madison East and started her career at Farmers Mutual (now American Family) where she met Tom Rivers, her future husband.  Tom has jokingly shared that he slowed down in the halls for Carol to catch him!  Mission accomplished!  They were married on September 27, 1958, and celebrated their 65th anniversary with family and close friends at Janet and Reed’s home.

Carol was able to be a homemaker and spend time with their two daughters in their younger years.  She then resumed her career as a church secretary and an administrative assistant at Wisconsin Automotive Wholesale Association where she was employed for over twenty years.

Carol enjoyed sports and was active in softball, bowling and golf.  She was an avid Badger, Packer and Brewer fan in person or on television.  She enjoyed her numerous neighbors and life long friends.  Volunteering was one of her fortes as she was an annual volunteer for the AmFam golf tournament in addition to her activities at Oakwood Village and St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married.  Carol also enjoyed world traveling with Tom and special vacations with family and friends.

Survivors include her spouse, Tom, daughter, Janet (Reed) Bollig, grand daughter, Megan (Matthew) O’Connor and the “apple of her eyes”, great grand daughter, Evelynn O’Connor.  Wednesdays were her favorite day as Janet brought Evie to visit and play.  Other survivors include her sister, Janice (Dean) Langholff and sister-in-law Joan Evans, nieces and nephews, Lori (Curt) Albrecht), Darin (Kim) Langholff, Richard (Crystal) Evans, Nancy (Bob) Holland, Andrew (Kim) Meyers and Dan (Tricia) Meyers.

She was predeceased by daughter, Patricia and son-in-law Conrad Polensky, her wonderful parents, sister Beverly Ann Evans, brother Harold Evans and sister Mary and brother-in-law George Meyers.

A service to celebrate the life of Carol will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service with luncheon to follow.  Friends and family are invited to join in commemorating Carol’s wonderful life.  Carol’s service will be live streamed from her obituary on the Cress Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Development Fund or Oakwood Village Foundation.
