Carol Elizabeth Maroney (nee Schultz) died peacefully with her family at her side on April 13, 2013 at Oakwood Lutheran Homes in Madison, Wis. She was born in Janesville, Wis. on February 5, 1944 to Elizabeth Martin Schultz and Roy Schultz. Carol graduated in 1962 from Janesville High School (now Craig). She also graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in journalism and worked for many years in healthcare public relations.
She married H.B. "Bernie" Maroney on November 1, 1974 and became the mother of Kathryn Maroney Moser (Mark) and Scott M. Maroney (Jennifer). She is further survived by three grandchildren; Anna Maxine Moser, Andrew Craig Moser and Cole Jerome Maroney.
Carol began her career at the Medical College of Wisconsin (formerly Marquette) in Milwaukee and was the Director of Public Relations for the Madison Wis. Medical Society, the University of Wisconsin- Madison Hospital and Medical School as well as St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Carol was also a naturalist and tour guide for over 15 years and on the Friends of the Arboretum Board.
She was a member of several community organizations including the Audubon Society, Attic Angels, Civics Club, Friends of WHATV Board, the Madison Club, the UW and Hospital Public Relations Council, Chapter H of PEO and many environmental organizations.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 3pm at Oakwood's Resurrection Chapel, 6201 Mineral Point Road in Madison. Visitation will be held at 2pm and a reception will be held immediately following the service.
Memorial donations are requested for the Friends of the U.W.- Madison Arboretum Board or The U.W. -Madison Arboretum Board at 1207 Seminole Highway in Madison, Wis 53711 or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family appreciates the care provided by the staff at Oakwood's Covenant Oaks Memory Care and the skilled nursing facility, Hebron Oaks. Also, the wonderful care and advice given by Agrace HospiceCare and "Kate's" team will be long remembered. Thanks be to God.
