Carol Halverson

Deerfield- Carol Jean Halverson, age 80, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at her home. She was born at home on December 23, 1934 the daughter of Leon and Edna Calder. Carol Jean graduated from Deerfield High School. On April 24, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Halverson. Together they farmed in Deerfield for 57 years. Carol Jean and Eugene enjoyed going for long drives, and going out for dinner- a tradition carried on by their children. Carol Jean's greatest joy was raising her four children and helping on the farm. She was a dedicated member of Deerfield Lutheran Church where she was a part of the church circle, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School. She was active in the Deerfield Women's Club. Carol Jean enjoyed reading and was passionate about promoting improvements to the Deerfield Library. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, especially for family and friends. Carol Jean was devoted to her family and looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Jeff (Debbie), Bruce (Cheryl), Carrie (Steven Jacobs), and Mark (Jill): nine grandchildren, Erik (Allison), Elizabeth, Chris (Amanda), Carrie, John (Amanda), Michael, Evan, Alan and Logan; five great grandchildren, Brayden, Ryleigh, Ethan, Evelyn and Kaydence; sister, Shirley (Paul) Thorstad; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Carol Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; and sister, June Rideout. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, with Rev. Larry Sexe officiating. Burial will follow in Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at church, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services Thursday at church. Memorials may be made to Deerfield Lutheran Church. A special thank you to the staff of Aster Assisted Living of Cottage Grove for their compassion and care of Carol Jean. Please share your memories.
