Obituary

Carol Corinne Fauerbach passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. She was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, on November 9, 1949, the daughter of David William and Corinne Carol (Schmitz) Fauerbach. She attended Queen of Peace and Blessed Sacrament Schools and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1968. She attended Milton College and then graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music.

Carol was a gifted pianist. Her brothers have fond memories of listening in rapture as she played her piano: the Warsaw Concerto, Claire de Lune, anything Chopin, and Beethoven. She loved music and often had opera or classical music from WHA playing in the background. Her brothers remember her extensive collection of 45’s back in her teenage years. She was talented and beautiful, and there was always a long line of boys asking her out.

Carol was a bird lover. She had numerous parakeets through the years and taught them many words (all good).

While attending Milton College, the Music Department chose Carol to compete in the “Miss Milton” pageant; it was a big deal, and she was runner-up.

Carol was a loving mother and grandmother, often checking in daily with her children. She crocheted blankets for everyone. She was a wonderful baker, making amazing shortbread and cakes for every birthday. Her Sloppy Joes and ratatouille were her children's favorites. And, she gave the best hugs!

Carol was a sweet and gentle soul. She faced many health challenges over the years with courage and grace, and she never, ever complained.

Carol is survived by her children, Michelle Winch, Jacob Winch, and Amy (Justin) Angell; grandchildren, Lyla Angell and Tristan Angell; brothers, William (Amalia) Fauerbach, Neil (Marianne) Fauerbach, James (Therese) Fauerbach, and David (Inga) Fauerbach; nieces and nephew, Colleen (Eric) Weissmann, Erin (Derek) Gaines, John (Kate Christiansen) Fauerbach, and Katie Fauerbach; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jonah, Ellena, Galina, Leon, Cora, and Carson; and many cousins.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, David and Corinne Fauerbach; grandparents, Walter and Margaret (Nielson) Fauerbach, and David and Christine (Statz) Schmitz; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the skilled, kind, and compassionate care that Carol received from the staff at St Mary’s Care Center/Complete Care at Maple Grove, especially Tristan and Sarah; and to the caregivers from Agrace, especially her nurse Amanda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with Father Jay Poster officiating.
