SUN PRAIRIE-Charles "Wallace" Havens passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 81. He was born on June 21, 1936 in Rolla, Missouri, son of Charles Claude and Golda Marie (Wallace) Havens. He married Rosann Lortz on November 26, 1958 in Rolla, Missouri at Macedonia Baptist Church. Together, they raised three amazing children.
Wallace grew up on a farm in Rolla, Missouri, fostering his love for animals. After completing High School he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Ulm Germany during the Korean War. Upon his return he attended college for animal husbandry. That took him around the country breeding cattle and to Laramie, Wyoming where he lived his dream of being a cowboy for four years. He then moved his family to Wisconsin where he worked for ABS, was a truck driver, and began breeding designer dogs, which led to his claim to fame of inventing the "Puggle". He also raised wild cats, hedge hogs, miniature donkeys, llamas, fainting goats, and of course, cattle.
Wallace was a true entrepreneur, and some of his business ventures included a dude ranch, worm farm, apartment complex, a bar, and an artificial breeding lubricant company. His most successful business was Play Haven Child Care Centers.
Wallace enjoyed life to the fullest. He never stopped living. His greatest passions were playing Texas Hold 'Em and spending time with his family. Wallace was someone who, with his love for life, understood what was truly important in life-the simplicity of living a life with those you love doing what you love.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 59 years Rosann Havens. His children Steve (Melissa) Havens of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and Kara (Todd) Prange of Lodi, Wisconsin. His grandchildren; identical twins Kristi Hollingshed of Laurel, Maryland and Kari (Kelly) Much of Waupaca, Wisconsin. Kacy Prange of Madison, Wisconsin, Sarah (Codi) Gerdes of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Kaleigh Prange of West New York, New Jersey, Zachary (Kendra) Havens of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and Caleb Havens of Boise, Idaho. Great-grandchildren Keleigh Much, Marissa Hollingshed, and Matthew Hollingshed. Brothers Johnny (Pat) Havens of St. James, Missouri and Hank (Flossie) Havens of Rolla, Missouri. As well as, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
