Britta Regnvall Fiddes died peacefully after an extended stay at Agrace HospiceCare on August 26, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew McCrae Fiddes, who died on September 6, 2007.
Britta was born in New York City on March 1, 1917, the daughter of the late Gustaf and Charlotte Doebert Regnvall, and the sister of the late Ingrid R. Pollakoff of Los Angeles, California. A graduate of White Plains High School, Britta pursued a career as a secretary in Manhattan and continued her education through several business courses. On October 14, 1939 she married Andrew Fiddes. They had two children, and Britta devoted herself to their activities, including Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. After her children were grown, Britta returned to work, serving as a school secretary in both New York and Ohio.
Britta and Andy were happily married for almost 68 years. Although they moved several times, they always engaged deeply in each community through church and civic organizations and kept in touch with a wide circle of friends. In retirement they also traveled extensively, including to Mexico, Costa Rica, Israel, Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. Throughout her life, Britta enjoyed reading, baking, quilting, sewing, and knitting; in addition, as an accomplished cook, she loved hosting dinners and bridge parties.
Britta is survived by her daughter, Andrea Fiddes Kenny and her son, Donald McCrae Fiddes. Andrea and her husband John Kenny live in Madison and have two children, Matthew and Amanda. Matthew and his wife, Lisa Milbrandt; Amanda and her husband, Rakesh Sarda, stepson Arman, and son Nikhil, all live in Madison. Don and his wife Elisabeth Snow Fiddes live in Westminster, Colorado. Liz and Don have two daughters, Callie and Rachel, who live in Colorado as well.
Britta's family is very grateful to all the staff and volunteers at Agrace for the extraordinary and compassionate care she received. There will be a private service for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Britta's name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4100 Nakoma Road, Madison, WI 53711 or AgraceHospiceCare 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711
