Obituary

Brian Daniel Baker, age 48, died peacefully at home on October 15th 2026. Brian was born on February 28th, 1978 in Hazard, KY. The son of Brice and Jo Ann Baker. Brian battled many health issues over the years; including a bone marrow transplant, relapse of leukemia, a partial nephrectomy from a rare form of kidney cancer, major back surgery, and most recently colon cancer. At the age of 16 he was given a 25% chance of survival, and at almost 23 he was given 30 days to live. Brian lived on borrowed time, and he is grateful for every moment he was blessed with. He hopes that those who read this obituary and attend his service will realize how blessed each and every moment of life is, and he would encourage you to take full advantage of the gift of life with every breath. The good times and the bad are all gifts, and we can learn and grow through them all. Brian grew most from his faith, his beloved family, and his love of sports; especially the University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball team.

Brian was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carisa Lynn Bohman, on March 18th, 2006. They lived in Paris KY and Mt. Sterling, KY before moving to Madison, WI. There, they adopted two precious boys, Chase ( Baraboo, WI) and Jackson Daniel “JD” ( Houston, TX). Chase and Jackson were always the apple of Brian’s eye. He loved them more than he could ever show or tell them. Brian tried to teach them early on that Believing in God and themselves was key to becoming the men they would become. That family needed to be valued and supported no matter the cost. He hoped they would learn that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord.

Brian was a graduate of Georgetown College and Southern Seminary. Thanks to the Tufano family, he was honored with the prestigious designation of a Kentucky Colonel in 2009. He worked as a Youth Minister in Paris, KY and Mt. Serling, KY, before working as a Hospice Chaplain for many years in Madison WI and surrounding areas. Brian always thought being a sports chaplain was his dream job, but realized it was Attic Angel Place and the wonderful culture and community there that ultimately became his dream job. While in Madison, Brian attended Midvale Baptist Church, and appreciated the KY connection and sound preaching and biblical foundation that was offered by pastor Bob and the church family.

Brian was preceded in death by his Father, Brice Daniel Baker, his uncle Russell Blair, his grandfather, Stephen Adams, his grandmother, Rose Ann Adams, his niece Megan Danielle Cook, his great grandfather William Mckinley Adams, and his great grandmother Dorie Adams. Brian would want all to know that God’s love for them is from everlasting to everlasting and was demonstrated through Jesus on the cross. Lean on God, and allow Him to direct your paths; not to lean on your own understanding. Brian’s favorite bible verse was Micha 7:8 which said, “ Do not gloat over me my enemy, though I have fallen, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light unto me.” When you fall, lean on the Lord, He will lift you up. In time of darkness, His light shines forth; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Tomorrow morning, wake up, praise God, and live for Him as if it is your last day, because you never know when that will be.

A Celebration of Brian's Life will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 3:00 p.m. at Midvale Baptist Church 821 South Midvale Blvd. Madison. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
