Bradford B. Boyd

Bradford Boyd, professor emeritus, age 88, of Madison passed away peacefully on September 29,2010 at Oakwood Village East. Brad was born in Cudahy, WI on August 29, 1922 to Harvey ""Scotty"" and Elizabeth (Swed) Boyd. Brad grew up in Racine, WI. During World War II, Brad served as a 1st Lieutenant and lead navigator for the Army Air Corps. Brad was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Marianne Hebblethwaite on July 9, 1944. After returning from overseas, Brad attended University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating with his degree in Business and obtaining his master's degree in Business in 1950.

Brad was employed by the UW-Extension Management Institute retiring as the director in 1985. Brad was an internationally recognized authority on supervision and supervisory training. He specialized in teaching and research in the areas of motivation, communication and supervisory development. Brad worked extensively with management personnel from many government and private companies around the United States. He also traveled to a number of different countries teaching, lecturing and running seminars for managers and supervisors around the world. His book, Management Minded Supervision was a top selling book world-wide for manager skills training.

Brad enjoyed camping, traveling, working in the yard at their family cabin, swimming, reading, going to the movies and spending time with his family and friends. He joined Lake Edge United Church of Christ in 1955 and was a very active member serving on a number of different committees over the years.

Brad is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marianne and his children, Judy (Patrick) Fitzpatrick, Scott (Melissa) Boyd, Jeff (Renee) Boyd, Lisa Boyd; grandchildren Colleen Fitzpatrick (Harold Patterson III), Kelly (Seamus) McVey, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Justin and Ryan Boyd; great grandchildren Harold IV and Taylor Patterson.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Elizabeth Boyd, sisters Vivian Guilette and Joyce Olsen, brothers-in-law Julius Guilette and Harvey Olsen.

A service will take place at Tree of Life Chapel, Oakwood Village East 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, WI. 53718. at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 11, 2010. A visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with Military honors will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park following a luncheon at Oakwood East.
