Bonnie Jeanne Hansen, 76, of McFarland, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Skaalen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton.

Bonnie was born on February 18, 1950, in Euclid, Ohio, to George Jr. and Betty (Robins) Newton. She graduated from Euclid High School in 1968, earned her bachelor's degree in education from Cleveland State University in 1972, and later received a Master of Education in Professional Development from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in 1993.

Bonnie taught at Maywood Elementary School in Monona for nearly 25 years. She will be remembered for her warm smile, positive spirit, and kindness toward everyone she met. She loved her family, friends, students, colleagues, and beloved pets. In her younger years, Bonnie skied, played tennis, enjoyed boating, and always loved traveling and finding adventure. An avid reader and book club member, Bonnie enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with friends. She loved gardening and spending time outdoors, especially among the butterflies in her garden.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Rand Hansen; children, Kevin Kovelan and Heather (Peter) Klug; three grandchildren; brother, Gary (Judy) Newton; and niece, Stacey (Josh) Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Jr. and Betty Newton, and her brother, George (Carol) Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Monona Grove Education Foundation, the Humane Society, Kiwanis, or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Cress Funeral Service, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland, WI 53558. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison.
