Stoughton-Robert (Bob) Gilbert, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2012 at the Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Bob was born in Tomah, Wisconsin on January 3, 1929 to Mary and George Gilbert. Bob graduated from Tomah High School in 1947 and married Marion Dohlin on October 28, 1950. He is an Air Force Veteran and was the first Tomah Veteran to be recalled for the Korean War in 1950. In 1953 he became the District Sales Manager for Evinrude Motors in Tennessee, Kentucky, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. He was made a Kentucky Colonel in 1958. In 1961, he purchased a local auto dealership in Stoughton and established Gilbert Motors. After 15 years, he sold the business and became a Financial Planner until his retirement in 1996. Bob was active with the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Stoughton Fair Board, Stoughton Hospital Foundation Board, the American Legion and the Stoughton Country Club where he was an avid golfer. In 1974 Bob and Marion were chosen as King and Queen of Syttende Mai. In 1978 they had the honor of representing Stoughton at a State dinner for King Olaf of Norway. He is survived by sons Michael (JoAnn) Gilbert , Greg Gilbert, daughter Jeanine(Brad) Mommaerts, and special daughter-in-law Mary (Terry ) Gilbert, sister Kathryn Vedder, grandchildren, Brad ( Stephanie) Gilbert, Amy (Syd) Anderson , Erin and Breanna Mommaerts, Gail and Bobby Gilbert, Scott and Stephen Gilbert, great grandchildren Tom, Grace, Elisabeth and Anne. Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife Marion, son Terry Gilbert and brother Wade Gilbert. He was a good friend, amazing husband and father and highly respected member of the Stoughton community. He will be missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton with Monsignor Healy presiding followed by a luncheon at St. Ann Church.
Family would like to extend special thanks to Monsignor Healy, and the staff at Agrace Hospice for their loving care and support.
