Madison/Melbourne, FL - Billy J. Bauman, M.D., age 80, died following a brief illness on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Ellen & Peter Johnson HospiceCare Residence in Madison. He was born on May 19, 1928, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the son of the late William and Sarah (Allen) Bauman, but he spent his early years in South Whitley, Indiana. Billy graduated from Indiana University in 1949 and from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1953. Billy was in the USAF as a Chief Flight Surgeon from 1953 to 1956. He served as a staff pathologist at St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center for 36 years.  He also served as Medical Director of the Dane County Cytology Center and as a forensic pathology consultant to the Dane County Coroners Office and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory. Billy is survived by his wife of 20 years, Julie (Hottmann) Bauman, his four children; Felix (Chris) Jaramillo, Helen Harrigan, Teresita (Michael) Crane, and Henry (Jessica Conaway) Bauman, his nine grandchildren; Silas, Atticus, and Adrian Jaramillo, Kelsey and Cutter Harrigan, Alicia and Michael Crane, and Shainah and Morgan Conaway-Bauman, and a sister, Barbara (Vernon Campbell) Stookey, and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Ben Bauman, and his two former wives, Norma Bauman and the mother of their four children, Dora Bauman Bakken. A gathering of friends and family in celebration of Billy's life will take place on Tuesday, July 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, at the HospiceCare Center at 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, Billy had requested that memorials be made in his name to The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin, 633 West Main Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53703.
