Betty Schneider

January 17, 1927 — January 14, 2017

Hartford/Sun Prairie- Betty Jane (Buck) Schneider, age 89, passed away on January 14, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on January 17, 1927, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Arthur and Molly (Riess) Buck. She was raised by her Uncle Matt and Aunt Alice (Riess) Werner. On October 29, 1960, Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Henry Schneider at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Betty was a graduate of Hartford High School, class of 1945. After high school, she did her part for the war effort working as an inspector at Hartford's West Bend Aluminum Company. Upon graduation from Prospect Hall Secretarial School for Girls in 1946, she was employed by Jordan Electric. Betty was an accomplished musician who studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. She was the organist at Redeemer Lutheran, St. John's U.C.C, and The Christian Science Society for over 50 years. Betty was also active in the International Order of Job's Daughters (PHQ and Past Grand Director of Music), the Order of the Eastern Star (PWM and Past Grand Organist), Hartford Civic Garden Club and a Girl Scout troop leader. Betty enjoyed Couples and Women's Bowling Leagues for many years, too.

Betty is survived by her daughter: Kim Olander; granddaughters: Megan and Alicia Olander; cousins: June Riess, Janet Conrad, Jack Riess, and Douglas, Roger, and Gordon Buck; sisters-in-law: Arlene and Ruth Schneider, and Gloria Menzel; nieces: Cyndee Thull and Pamela Kellow; nephews: Randy and John Menzel, Calvin Schneider Jr., Dr. John Schneider, Redeemer Lutheran Church Circle Friends and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on May 23, 1992.

At Betty's request, the piano and organ will be silent; so A Celebration of Life will be held on June 11, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave. Madison, Wisconsin 53704. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

The family would like to thank the employees at: Care Wisconsin (Team Five), Nazareth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Catholic Charities Adult Day Center, and Van Go Taxi service, for their care and support of Betty.
