Betty Arlene (Amherdt) Roessler, 96, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born in Barneveld, WI on January 15, 1930 to Otto and Lena (Rikli) Amherdt.
She graduated from Oregon High School in 1947. She married the man of her dreams Gilbert (Gil) Roessler on April 22,1950 in Loretta, WI. She worked at Goodman Jewelers for 23 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at St Mary’s Hospital, American Red Cross, and the Waunakee Food Pantry. Her greatest pastime was baking, especially banana bread, for her grandchildren and friends. She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, watching the Brewers, Packers, and the Badger games. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, and trivia games.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Carol), Mark (Peggy), Gary (Terri), Susan (Mikka), and Jane (Don) Freeman. Her 12 grandchildren, Brian, Tyson (Nikki) Angela (Eric) Heath, Samuel (Brenda), Jessica (Keith) Burrell, Aevyrie (Katie), Trevor, Megan DeTraglia, Michael (Andrea) Freeman, Christopher Freeman, Jasen Koebler, Markus Huffman, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Otto and Jim Amherdt.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gil, sisters Louise Bowers, and Polly Sanders, brother Donald and parents Otto and Lena.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH/ST JAMES CHURCH, 1134 St James Ct, Madison on Tuesday September 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Red Cross or Second Harvest Food Bank.
