Betty J. Pohlman

Betty Jean Nesthus Pohlman, a cherished member of the Deerfield community, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on August 8, 2026. Born on December 27, 1931, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, Betty was the beloved daughter of Norman and Clara Nesthus. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ralph, and her dear parents. Betty's life was a testament to her nurturing spirit and dedication to others. Her career was marked by her roles in Deerfield and Marshall schools, as well as her compassionate care for daycare children and nursing home residents. She concluded her professional journey with a fulfilling retirement from Stoughton Hospital. Her work was not just a job but a calling that touched countless lives. Active in her community and church, Betty was a cherished member of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church. She found joy and purpose in her participation in the church's Circle and served as a past president of the ELCA. Her faith and community service were central to her life, providing her with strength and solace. Betty's warmth and hospitality were legendary among her family and friends. Her home was a haven where visitors were always greeted with open arms and delicious homemade treats like doughnuts, lefse, and banana bread. Her stories of life on the farm and her experiences at Stoughton Hospital were shared with love and laughter, often centered around the adventures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty's family was her greatest pride and joy. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Pam Kelly (Jack), Michael Pohlman (MaryLou), Siri Sinha (Mike), and Karan Bliske (Clark). She leaves behind a legacy of love in her 12 grandchildren: Adam, Aase, Anna, Autumn, Selena, Kaleb, Neil, Emily, Eric, Madeline, Clara, and Elijah, as well as 16 great-grandchildren who brought her endless happiness. Her hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant personality. Betty found pleasure in gardening, bowling, and quilting. She was also an avid fan of Cubs baseball and local home talent games. Her zest for life and her ability to find joy in simple pleasures were an inspiration to all who knew her. A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 11:00 AM on August 22, 2026, at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, located at 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, Wisconsin 53531. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service at the church on Saturday. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the caring staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their kindness and compassion, and to Pastor Holly Slater for her comforting presence during Betty's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, Deerfield, Wisconsin, 53531. Betty will be remembered for her boundless love, her generous spirit, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
