Betty Plumer

March 2, 1925 — April 4, 2014

MADISON - Betty L. Plumer, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. She was born in Chicago, IL on March 2, 1925 to Art and Emma (Daniels) Wakeford.

Betty graduated from Delavan High School in 1943. After graduation, Betty worked at a Delavan Defense Plant in the payroll department, eventually becoming a supervisor. While working there, she met her future husband, Jesse. In late 1943, Jesse was called to war in Europe. After returning home in 1945, Jesse and Betty in love and were married on June 8, 1946. After their first son was born in 1947, they moved to Milledgeville, Illinois so Jesse could join the family construction business. While in Illinois, Betty gave birth to 3 more sons. In 1957, the family moved to Wisconsin, eventually settling in Madison. In 1960, Betty rejoined the workforce, spending nearly 10 years as bookkeeper/office manager at Professional Office Buildings. In 1970, she accepted a position at CUNA Mutual, where she worked in individual accounting until retirement.

She is survived by her son Ronald (Patty Schreiber) of Waunakee, Michael (Susan Hagan) of Lodi, David (Peggy) of Fitchburg and Jon (Chris) of Lodi; seven grandchildren, Eric (Allison) Plumer, Bradley Plumer, Angela (Mark) Hanson, Jennifer (Billy Anderson) Plumer, Katie (Joe) Greer, Lindsey (Josh) Ghiloni, and Megan Plumer; six great-grandchildren, Kinley, Samuel, Cameron, Bennett, Henry, and Monte; and her beloved dog, Toby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jesse (2005).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 110 N. Whitney Way, Madison with Reverend Jason Zobel officiating. Family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison and on Thursday at church one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to the Dane County Humane Society or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Agrace HospiceCare, St. Mary's Cardiac Unit, Oakwood Rehab, and BrightStar (especially Sandy), for their excellent care and support to both Betty and her family.
