Sun Prairie

Betty Ann Nelson, 94, of Sun Prairie passed away on September 17, 2025 at Brookdale Assisted Living, Sun Prairie.

Betty was born on August 13, 1931 in Dalton, Wisconsin to Pryce and Anna (Fahning) Jenkins. She graduated from Markesan High School and soon after moved to Madison to work for the Wisconsin Air National Guard. While there, she met her future husband, Phillip Nelson. They were married on November 10, 1952 and resided in Madison until moving to Sun Prairie in 1965, where she lived for the next 60 years. Together they raised four boys, to whom Betty provided great love and support.

Betty was an avid sports fan and supporter of her sons’ wrestling endeavors, attending all of their matches across the state. One of her favorite leisure activities was long drives in the country sightseeing with family. She also spent countless hours playing card games with family and friends. Her favorites were cribbage and euchre. Betty was very musically inclined and shared her love of music with her family. In addition to her efforts as a wife and mother, Betty worked as a bookkeeper for the Bohling Plumbing and Heating company for 30 years. She was a devoted member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie for over 60 years. She was also an animal lover and got great joy from her ever-present cats. Later in life, she began new adventures by traveling with friends across the globe, visiting numerous countries in Europe, Asia and South America. Betty will be remembered for all of these things, but most of all for her kindness which she shared with everyone she met along the way. She had a sweet soul.

Betty is survived by her sons, Gary (Debrah) Nelson, Daniel (Sanola) Nelson, Thomas Nelson, David (Pamela) Nelson; a sister Jackie Duffy (and nephew, Scott Duffy); grandchildren Dana and Sam Nelson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pryce and Ann Jenkins; husband, Phillip Nelson; and a sister Mary Jean Jenkins.

The family would like to thank to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Brighton Hospice for their care of Betty in her final months.

Betty will be brought to her final place of rest in a private ceremony at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.
