Betty A. Schkirkie - Mellum

McFarland – Betty A. Schkirkie- Mellum passed away unexpectedly while at home at age 75 on Tuesday January 23, 2024.  She was born on September 21, 1948, in Portage, WI, daughter of the late Harry and Ada (Lenz) Schkirkie.  Betty graduated from the McFarland High School in 1966, the first graduating class to go all 4 years in the new high school.  She then went on to work as an office manager for Aramark, then retired after 30+ years with the company.  She then put in some years at WPS.  While married to Larry Mellum she enjoyed bowling at Spartan Bowl, hunting and camping at the Wilderness Campground. Every year there was a vacation out east in a camper with her family.  As years passed, she still enjoyed traveling to warmer climates with her partner Carolyn and many friends.  She even kept a log of where, when, with whom and what they saw.  She would always take time to go to granddaughter Kalee’s choir concert and grandson Kyle’s sporting events.  Betty really kept family at heart no matter the occasion, that includes spoiling her dog Jordi and the late Shiloh.  She loved her animals and her Miami Dolphins.  She had the fan gear to make sure everyone knew.  Probably the #1 and only fan, but she did not mind.   Betty’s children really enjoyed the laughter while hearing the stories of her and her two brothers when they were kids.  Those 3 together had no fear.  As a member of the McFarland American Legion Post 534, you could find her there playing Euchre and socializing with her friends and other members.  

 Betty is survived by her beloved dog Jordi; 2 children Scott Mellum and Chris (Charlie) Kussow; 2 grandchildren Kalee and Kyle Kussow; great grandson Dior Kussow; partner Carolyn Quamme; 2 brothers John (Cindy) Schkirkie and Jerry (Pam) Schkirkie; 2 nephews Dustin and Jacob Schkirkie.

The family will greet friends on Monday February 12, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 5801 Hwy 51, McFarland.  Immediately following will be a celebration of life at The GREEN LANTERN Restaurant, 4412 Siggelkow Rd. McFarland.

Betty loved her family very much and that never went without saying.  Our hearts have been broken when the Lord chose your time.  We hold you close to our hearts and all our memories with you will never be forgotten.  With your wings fly high, til we meet again.
